Power of Portrait/Poder del retrato

Hello All.

Portraits have always been very difficult and hard to get it right, but at the same time very exacting and intimidating.  

Many artist in different state of their lives have tried. At the moment it is on what I am working as people's faces are extremely fascinating. Working with lines, shadows....etc.  

I have lately been going to National Portrait Gallery on Fridays, sometimes on my own and sometimes with friends, to draw portraits from statues or paintings. 

It is incredible popular and you do not have to follow tutor's instructions.  I do normally work on small sketch book and I do not tend to spend longer that 5 minutes on one. Here are a few samples of my work.

Retratos han sido siempre muy dificil y duro de hacerlos bien, pero a la misma vez son muy excitante y tambien intimidante. 

Muchos artistas lo han intentado en un momento de sus vidas. Es en lo que estoy trabajando en estos momentos, pues las caras humanas me fascinan. Dibujando con lines, sombras...etc. 

Ultimamente voy a pintar a la National Portrait Gallery los viernes, algunas veces solo y otras con amigos, retratos basados en estatuas o/y pinturas. 

Es muy popular, pero no tienes que seguir las instrucciones del tutor. Normalmente trabajo en pequeños block de dibujo y no trabajo mas de 5 minutos en cada uno. Aqui teneis algun ejemplo.  

  

Humphrey Ocean

Humphrey Ocean is a British artist that I have discovered by another artist, when I showed her my latest sketching on a break of a session of life modelling.

First time I saw them (a picture on internet) I thought there were made digitally but the portraits share a format, and by using gouache, a kind of thickened watercolour, on paper, Ocean can work very swiftly. None of the portraits took him more than 45 minutes.

Humphrey Ocean es un artista Britanico que he descubierto por una artista, al mostrarle mis últimos dibujos, en un descanso de una session de pintura.

La primera vez que los vi en una imagen en internet pense que habian sido producidos digitalmente pero los retratos comparten formato, y por utilizar gouache, una especia de acuarela mas espesa, Ocean puede trabajar con soltura. 

Ninguno de los dibujos le llevo mas de 45 minutos.

At the beginning of 2016 I have spent a few days in Malaga, celebrating my birthday. Malaga is a city that I have always wanted to go, purely because of some people has told that has improved since last time I went, 25 years ago, and I wanted to double checked it. 

I knew that the city was full of many museums (Thyssen, Picasso, Pompidou, etc) that I wanted to visit. I did so many sketching from pictures that I have seem. I will post a blog about it.  

In The Russian collection  I have discovered this artist. We had a private tour explaining us so many details about his life and art that fascinated me. Later at home I did more research on him.  

From the moment I saw his self-portrait I got hooked on. So vibrant, modern, alive, full of colour and experiences. You can not just stare at them and not wondering about his life.

A principios del 2016, pase unos dias en Malaga por la celebración de mi cumpleaños. Malaga es una ciudad que he querido visitar desde hace bastante tiempo, simplemente por que muchos amigos me habian contado que habia cambiado y queria comprobarlo yo mismo. La ultima vez que estuve allí fue 25 años atras. 

Sabia de la existencia de muchos museos en la ciudad (Thyssen, Picasso, Pompidou, etc) que queria visitar. Dibuje mucho en mi block de dibujo y en un futuro hablare de ello en el blog. 

En la colleción Rusa, descubrí a este artista que me fascino, pues una guia privada nos conto mucho sobre su vida y obra. Despues en casa hice mas busqueda y encontre estos retratos. 

Desde el momento que los vi me fascino. So vibrante, moderno, lleno de vida y de color y con muchas experiencias que contar. No puedes comtemplarlos sin preguntarte todo sobre su vida.

Nude for Thought

Hello Everybody.

Yesterday I attended an exhibition called "Nude for Thought", in which a few artists exhibited their work based on Male Nudity. They all claim is so undervalued by people/market...etc and they want to show us that human body (not just female one ) is interesting beauty and so exciting to look and observe.

Ayer estuve en un exposición de pintura llamada "Nude for Thought", en la que unos cuantos artistas expusieron su trabajo basado en  el  desnudo masculino. Todos reivindican que esta super devaluado por el publico/industria...etc, así que todos quieren mostrar mediante sus trabajos que el cuerpo humano (solo solo el femenino) es interesante, bonito e interesante de ver y observar.

TheHouseOfBerto - Latest

Hello All.

This post shows my latest draws using my iPad. As I do not have much money I have used myself as photo model, always playing with contract on colours and drawing with my finger. It is so liberating as i am not trying to achieve perfection. Sometimes I think the end result is quite something.

En esta entrada os muestro los ultimos dibujos que he hecho utilizando la tableta. Como no dispongo de mucho dinero, el modelo soy yo, siempre jugando con los contrastes en colores y dibujando con los dedos. Es muy liberador el no perseguir la perfección en las proporciones. Algunas veces el resultado final no esta mal.

Experience in South of France

All,

Escaping from what I thought It would have been a awful summer I went to the South of France for a week. I wanted to discovered the place where so many artist like Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin, Van Gogh and many more have worked and have lived. 

I stayed in a little village called "Maussane Les Alpines", close to the town of "Arles" and not too far from "Avignon". As I am not driving and the transports were not very convenient I did visit a few places but not as many as I would have loved. 

"Les Baux de Provence", is a small village with a castle in ruins, which was 4 miles from were I was staying, so I walked. And by chance I discovered this place called "Carrier de Lumieres". A former quarry with art-based multimedia shows, projecting images of famous painting set to music.  It blowed my mind away, so delicately done, so moving. Every year the shows are different. Totally recommended place to visit.

Como me esperaba un verano desastroso aquí en Londres, me escape al sur de Francia, pues quería visitar el lugar donde vivieron y trabajaron algunos de mis artistas favoritos, como Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin, Vincent Van Gogh entre otros muchos. 

Me quede en un pueblecito llamado "Maussane Les Alpines", cerca de la ciudad de Arles y no muy lejos de "Aviñon".  Como no tengo carnet de conducir estuve bastante restringido a la hora de visitar lugares y no pude ver tanto como me hubiera gustado. 

"Les Baux de Provence", es un pueblo pequeño con un castillo en ruinas y unas vistas de impresión, y como estaba cerca pues fui andando. Por casualidad descubri un sitio llamado "Carrier de Lumieres".  Una ex-cantera donde se proyectan espectáculos de arte con música en sus paredes. Me sorprendió muchísimo y me emociono. Cada año el espectáculo es diferente y merece la pena.
